CS371p Fall 2020: Pranay Kalagara
1. What did you do this past week?
This past week I finished the Darwin project, which took much longer than I had initially anticipated but we managed to get it done. We were having a bug with the way we were initializing our board so I spent most of my Wednesday trying to fix that. However, we got it done and I’m glad to be moving forward. Other than Darwin I didn’t really have a whole lot of other work this week though.
2. What’s in your way?
Just trying to stay on top of my course work. It’s really starting to pick up, and I’ve also never taken 15 hours in one semester before so hopefully it doesn’t get too overwhelming. Just have to make sure I plan and use my time more wisely. I would also like to be better about fitting in some excersise if I can.
3. What will you do next week?
This weekend, I plan to catch up on all of my classes and hopefully start going to bed sooner because my sleep schedule is out of wack nowadays haha. I’d also like to get started on the next OOP project as well because I don’t want to be rushing last minute like what I had to do with Darwin. It’d be nice to get it done so I can try to relax more heading into thanksgiving.
4. If you read it, what did you think of The Dependency Inversion Principle?
I thought the Dependency Inversion Principle article was a very interesting read and it really summed up a lot of what we were doing in class and with the projects. It was nice seeing how these concepts will be things we will most likely have to use someday rather than random nonsense I would never look at again. I really enjoy that about this class.
What was your experience of continuing to implement std::vector, move semantics, and allocators again? (this question will vary, week to week)
I felt that continuing to implement these classes made it so that I better understand the inner workings of C++, but I still feel as though I have to learn it better since I still don’t have a great grasp on all the material. I’ll coninue to look at it more this week.
6. What made you happy this week?
I’m quite happy that I finished Darwin honestly. That project was really stressing me out since I started late and it seemed pretty difficult, but it went better than expected considering the circumstances.
7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I’ve recently been looking into some online courses just to see if I could take something that would interest me in the CS area and I found some potential great ones on Udemy. I recommend this website if you are looking for educational videos on almost any subject because they have a ton!
